I remember writing poetry and stories when I was only 8 years old. I would create characters out of nothing and write their adventures. I would laugh at my own stories. After I was done, I would hide my scraps of work, as this was a part of me that was not to be on display.

This creative side was uncommon around me, a family of professionals, a society of professionals rather. It would be the past of least resistance to join this society. I decided that once I am on my feet, I would maybe start creating again. As I grew up, I focused only on what it took to get ahead of the game of society.

Just as I started to get ahead in the game of society, I decided to get married to a man I was truly in love with, and find the support I needed to belong less in the game of society, and much more in the game of creativity and discovery.  It soon became apparent that he had other plans, none of which involved me.

One day, I chose to love myself, and stop waiting for the time to create and discover. And now I am free of marriage, free of society and free of my own mind, I am only me. Everyday I experience the greatest happiness of living as me. The world has evolved to appreciate creativity finally, and the game of society is gradually being exposed for what it isn’t. Or maybe it feels this way because I choose to be me, and my choice reinforces this for many.

I would change nothing about my journey. I discovered and in so doing, created a love for myself I do not know how to compromise. The moral of the story is, that each child is born with excitement about discovery, regardless of the resources at its disposal. The only education he or she needs is to learn how to discover and interact with the world around and in so doing, enjoy the journey!
