In 2015 we have 3 Mercury retrograde time periods, each in an air sign. The significance of this is that Mercury, the planet of thought and mental retrogrades is the element that addresses our intellect, which strengthens the impact of these time periods for 2015.

Mercury doesn’t actually turn backwards, it just appears to do so when viewed from the earth. Mercury is closest to the sun, and the fastest moving planet, hence its connection with speed and motion. And, indeed, things can get a bit off kilter when Mercury is retrograde.

Think of 2015 as a year to dot your ‘i’s and cross your ‘t’s. Mercury Retrograde can be a positive time if you know what to expect. There are a few tried and true rules that will serve you well. If possible, don’t sign contracts or other binding transactions during this time.

Circumstances may change regarding financing for real estate, and it’s a notoriously difficult time with transportation and technology. Also, be patient, take care to communicate clearly, and plan well.

You must live your life, and you cannot hide out for 3 weeks while Mercury is retrograde. Take heart; when Mercury, the ruler of your logical mind is retrograde, your intuition can grow stronger.

Dates:    January 21 – February 11       17 Aquarius retrograde to 1 Aquarius
May 18 – June 11    13 Gemini retrogrades to 4 Gemini
September 17 – October 9   15 Libra retrogrades to 0 Libra

Keywords for the Air Element:

Understanding     Awareness     Reason     Imagination     Articulation

Curiosity     Writing     Speech     Definition

Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius: January 21st to February 11th

Venus is also in Aquarius until Jan 27th, and then enters Pisces. Mars is in Pisces the entire time. The Sun is in Aquarius for this entire Mercury retrograde. This is an opportunity to open your mind to new ideas and to think outside the box. Consider completely new ways of approaching your old tasks; you can refresh and rejuvenate your business practices.

It’s a great time to:

  • Join a networking organization and meet people – you will meet people who feel like old friends and share common interests
  • Visit places that inspire you and open your mind to new concepts
  • Practice yoga and or other healing modalities that will open up the energetic channels in your body
  • Negotiate job duties and/or your work situatio
  • What may go astray: encountering resistance to your great idea; overlooking an obvious fact; technology goes haywire, i.e. – computers, cell phones, automobile, public transportation

Mercury Retrograde in Gemini – May 18th – June 11th

At this time, Mars will also be in Gemini, the Sun (after June 21st), and Venus in Cancer. Issues that are likely to come up will be related to finance and/or monies owed (Venus) as well as communications. With so many planets in Gemini it’s important that you avoid burn-out at this time and especially guard against nervous tension. Think about travel, versatility, books, multiple experiences, inner dialogue, and curiosity.

It’s a great time to:

  • Take a trip, or revisit a place that you’ve been to
  • Finish a book that you have started or have been planning
  • Duplicate a project that you have already completed
  • Catch up with siblings, or other family members
  • Appear on radio, TV, get quoted in the newspaper or other media outlet

What may go astray: delays in scheduled transportation such as flight departures and/or missed travel connections; allow plenty of time when making arrangements to be picked up or getting to an airport; you may lose focus easily, so plan your work, and work your plan. There can be confusion caused by mixed messages, and some people just cannot, or do not want to, make up their minds.

Mercury Retrograde in Libra: September 17th – October 9th

The Sun enters Libra on September 23rd; Mars enters Virgo on the 24th.  Venus is in Leo for this entire time and sets the tone for a fashionable and extroverted Mercury retrograde experience. It’s time to manage balance in your world. Think about relationships, social engagements, art, design, finance and architecture, and environmental refinements.

It’s a great time to:

  • Make art, get pictures framed, repair jewelry
  • Attend a dance class; tango, burlesque, pole dance, tai chi; move your body in an elegant way
  • Invite friends for dinner for generous and luxurious times together
  • Connect with the love of your life! Seriously – Libra is the sign of relationships, and Mercury retrograde is a time to reconnect with your long lost soul mate
  • Organize closets, get old clothing tailored or refitted, clean up the past
  • What may go astray: getting lazy and thinking about doing things rather than doing them; being paralyzed by indecision; holding on to resentments in relationships.

Happy travels through 2015. With these few simple tools, you can make Mercury retrograde a positive time. Put the wind in your sails, and go with the flow.
