Many new coaches are excited to start helping people create a life or business that they love but often don’t realize how much of their time should be devoted to client attraction.

Did you know that as an online coach, it is recommended that you spend 50% or more of your time on marketing and lead generation?

Whoa! That surprised me when I first heard that.

But it does make makes sense. We often think that our most important work is to serve the clients we have, but the truth is that the most important work we can do is to find and attract the people that we can help. Because if we aren’t attracting people that will hire us to help them, we won’t be in business very long.

So to be able to help the most amount of people, possible you’ll want to master your client generating activities very quickly. To make sure that you get the biggest bang out of your client attraction, I’ve created this list of 10 steps that you’ll want to master. If you are just starting your business, then I recommend with starting with 1-2 activities that feel fun to you and as you become proficient in them, add new ones into the mix.

  1. Create a valuable freebie and a powerful email sequence to grow your email list and have your readers saying: “I need to work with her!” This needs to be one of the first things you do, and you can even start before you have a website. As soon as you start sharing your message, you can start collecting the email addresses of people who resonate with your content.
  2. Post on social media using powerful content to attract your dream clients. Make sure to start with an attention-catching headline or first sentence and finish it off with your call to action. It’s also important to respond to any comments and reach out to anyone who seems that they may need your services and start building a relationship with them.
  3. Blog. Creating valuable content is one of the best ways to easily attract clients on an on-going basis. It establishes you as an expert, builds community and improves your likelihood of being found on search engines. Make sure to think strategically about what content your target audience is looking for and then create it.
  4. Start a Facebook Group around your coaching offer and do weekly lives in the group sharing valuable information and explaining the benefits of working with you. This is a great place for authentically getting to know your audience.
  5. Plan a workshop or webinar. This is an amazing opportunity to express your expertise, build authentic connections and pitch your services or products.
  6. Attend weekly networking events virtually or in person and make sure you are sharing a rock-solid elevator pitch with everyone you meet.
  7. Grow your network by reaching out to 5 contacts a day on social media to build relationships.
  8. Use Facebook ads to boost the visibility of your free offer. Once you’ve tested out your offer with your organic (non-paid) audience, then you can start paying for ads. Make sure to take a course or hire an expert to make sure you are getting the best bang for your bucks.
  9. Use SEO – this is a little more involved than the other steps but you can start with the very simple steps of saving all your website photos with the keywords you want to be known for. This is one of the most effective ways to attract traffic to your website for free so you’ll eventually want to take the time to set up site-wide SEO.
  10. Identify and reach out to influencers or well-known & well-connected people in your industry or community to build relationships. Build an authentic relationship with the hope that they will share your content & work with their large network of connections.

Using these 10 steps will ensure that you have new potential clients coming into your sphere of influence every single day! That way you can help as many people as possible and really make a difference in the world.
