Boost Your Confidence as a New Online Entrepreneur

One of the most common things I hear new entrepreneurs say is that they don’t feel good enough in some way or another. Unfortunately, low confidence prevents people from showing up as their authentic selves, taking risks and achieving their dreams.

It’s especially challenging to feel confident when we are doing something new that we’ve never done before, like starting a new business. As a new entrepreneur, if you aren’t confident in yourself, it’s going to be twice as hard to publish that blog post, do that FB live or gush about your newest offer at a networking event. And these are the things that you must do to grow your business and audience.

As a new entrepreneur, it’s incredibly important to be feel confident in your offering and yourself so:

  • You can face small failures without feeling like you should give up.
  • You can let go of worrying about what others think and overcome your fears of being seen, rejected or failing
  • You are magnetic. Confidence creates an energy that others want to be around. It’s incredibly attractive and draws people to you.
  • Your audience can trust that you can help them and hire you.
  • You’ll feel comfortable being visible online with blogs, live video and social media posts.

Because if you aren’t then no one will be able find you or your services and if they can’t find you then they can’t buy from you. So feeling confident enough to shout about your business from the rooftops and share your offering with the world is clearly crucial to being successful in business.

However, confidence is something most of us struggle with at some point in our lives. There is an epidemic of low self-esteem and low confidence right now and it’s especially prevalent in women.

I believe the reason this is true is because our current society was created by men for men. Due to this, masculine qualities, skills, talents and actions are prized above feminine qualities. The talents, skills and gifts of women are not valued as highly as those of men. Basically since we were babies, we’ve received the programming that we aren’t as good as men and that has affected our confidence in everything we do. Makes sense right? The good news is that you can let go of this conditioning and reprogram yourself with thoughts and beliefs that will support you in feeling confident and getting visible.

Luckily, confidence is not something that we either have or don’t have, it’s something that we can cultivate.

Here are a few ways to boost your confidence and feel comfortable being seen online.

1. Get to know yourself and accept who you are. The more you know yourself, the more you can accept yourself which leads to liking yourself, which leads to confidence.  Look at your strengths, your talents and your skills. What are you good at? What training or certifications have you taken?  I often recommend getting a Gallup StrengthsFinder Report. For $20US, it will tell you what your top 5 strengths are. I recommend this report because when I did it, it opened up my mind to qualities that I didn’t realize are considered strengths. For example, I hadn’t considered my ability to connect with others as a strength.

Take time to get to know your soul and how you were designed from birth. Make a list of your values and make sure that you are living in alignment with them. If you are out of alignment with your own values, you won’t feel very good about yourself or like yourself.

The more that you know yourself, the more you can accept and approve of yourself and then love yourself. When you truly like and love yourself, you feel confident. If you’ve tried this before, or struggle when you do it, then you may want to get support as it’s often easier for someone else to see your strengths than it is for you to see them yourself.

2. Praise yourself. Praise yourself. Praise yourself! To feel confident, you need to validate your own worth. Most of us want to be praised by others, yet we only have control over what we say to yourselves, so praise yourself often. Remind yourself of how great you are, because it’s really easy to be hard on yourself, especially if you have perfectionist tendencies.

Most of us are way too hard on ourselves and you talk more to yourself more than anyone else, so you’ll want to make sure you are praising instead of criticizing yourself. We often say things to ourselves that we would never say to anyone else, you’ll want to catch these thoughts and replace them. Make a list of accomplishments and/or positive feedback and compliments you’ve received and read them over and over again.

3. Keep a beginner’s mind & practice. Keep reminding yourself that you are doing something new. Anytime someone is doing something new, they aren’t very good at it but over time, they become better and better until you feel confident in it. Consider yourself to be “practicing being confident” or “practicing doing Facebook lives” to take the pressure off. You won’t feel a need for it to be perfect right away if you look at it as practice.

4. Power Poses. The previous three steps will dramatically boost your confidence over time, but what if you need to feel confident right now? Power poses can boost your confidence very quickly by actually changing the hormones in your body. It’s proven that simply by standing in a power pose for two minutes, you’ll boost the testosterone in your body, leading to higher confidence. So the next time, you’re feeling nervous or insecure, widen your step, place your hands on your hips or in the air and channel your inner Wonder Woman. To make this even more powerful, think of a time when you felt on-top-of-the-world, unstoppable or extremely powerful while holding the pose. You can also keep this memory in your back pocket and bring it out whenever you feel doubt or fear arise.

Follow the steps above and you’ll be confidently sharing your content to attract your soul clients today. You won’t be worrying about failing, being rejected or what others think anymore because you’ll be too busy taking care of business.
