Our featured Simply Woman Superstar this week is Samantha Vidal. Samantha is a Certified Master Empowerment Coach through The S.W.A.T. Institute, a Certified Reiki Master, and a professional Makeup, Hair, and Wig Artist, having worked for the Canadian Opera Company for the last 30 years. How cool is that?!

Samantha came to my first-ever Simply Woman Retreat at my home in September 2005, and as the story goes, we’ve never looked back! Samantha loved it so much that she came to my next retreat two months later and shared:

“I remember the feeling of ‘wow, there are more women like me than I realize. I’m not alone.”

Samantha then courageously asked if she could come and help out at my next retreat, and I thought that sounded great. Samantha has now supported me at every single home retreat since 2005. What a fantastic team we’ve become!

Having had her struggles growing up as an extremely shy child, Samantha reflects on the well-intended secrets of her mother and her grandparents who raised her. The main question never answered by them was who her father was.

Years later, a family friend showed her a man’s photo and told her his name, revealing that he was indeed her dad. Shocked, Samantha learned that he worked at a car dealership just around the corner from her home and had been a mere block away all these years without ever coming to meet her. She felt heartbroken but never spoke about her pain to anyone. Silence was golden, Samantha had learned, and secrets were secrets; what went on in their home stayed in their home.

Looking back, she wonders if her ‘shyness’ was a form of loyalty to her mother, refusing to allow any of “their stories” ever to slip out but also refusing to let many of her own out either.

In her early teens, Samantha stumbled upon ‘her thing.’ It was called the Eleanor Fulcher School. Here, she took modeling courses, and part of the program included a makeup course. Samantha was hooked.

In high school, she did the makeup and hair for the play Bye Bye Birdie. Backstage, she felt alive! And after she graduated, Samantha continued her education in makeup and hair. At 21, she saw a new opportunity opening at the Canadian Opera Company. Samantha applied and was chosen as one of four people from all across Canada to apprentice for one year. That apprenticeship has turned into over 30 years of connecting with some of the biggest stars in the world.

Her clients often told Samantha that her quiet yet calming presence was one of her superpowers. She knew she had an innate gift of helping them access their own source of inner strength and resolve. In 2009, Samantha decided that becoming a Certified Master Empowerment Coach was her next step.

“When I signed up to the S.W.A.T. Institute, I knew something magical was going to happen although I didn’t know exactly what at the time; I just knew instinctively it was a great opportunity that I could not pass on.

I was beginning a huge transition that I was not aware of, and although I loved being a makeup artist, I wanted to work from home more and have the opportunity to work anywhere I choose to.

Studying with S.W.A.T. changed so many things, and it proved to me how strong and intelligent I am. The amount of knowledge I gained, and the changes that occurred during my training were magical. Being an introvert and an empath has often made things difficult for me, and yet, I not only learned to work with it and accept who I am, but I also discovered it works for me!”

Today Samantha is a Certified Master Empowerment Coach, leading her own classes and workshops to help empaths manage and protect their energy, as well as supporting her clients through 1-on-1 coaching. She lives in Ontario, Canada, with her beautiful daughter and beloved husband.
