The Power of Wonder Journaling

This month’s ‘book referral’ is my favourite so far – and it’s not really a book!

I found it by fluke. I was checking out author Amber Rae’s website to see her latest projects, as her book Choose Wonder over Worry is among my favourites. To my delight, she had a freshly published ‘feelings journal’ ready for pre-order, which I’m now using and am wowed by the results.

Thanks to Crystal Andrus Morissette and the SWAT Institute, I’m an emotional empowerment geek and The Wonder Journal: A Guide to Explore Your Emotions does not disappoint. Unlike any journal I’ve seen, it’s a guidebook to help you write your way through your emotions to discover your own answers to life.

In her words, “Wonder Journaling is the practice of being actively curious about your inner world. This way of being awakens your imagination and opens the door for your wisest self to lead.”

Following a brief and bang on introduction, the journal features four parts:

  1. Follow your Feelings guides you to explore your unique experience of how you feel – or want to feel – 28 common feelings from Afraid and Angry through to Safe and Worthy.
  2. The Journal gives you space to answer the provided ‘deep dive’ prompts or to dialogue with the specific emotions that you’re experiencing.
  3. The Feelings Tracker is a genius way to capture and work through your emotional triggers.
  4. Your Aha Moments is a convenient place to capture and organize the key insights from your journaling that you most want to remember.

It’s hard for me to choose my favourite part of this journal as I love the whole thing. I also don’t want to give away too much here, as I’d rather you discover her work for yourself. But if I had to pick what I like most, it’s that while the author does offer some expertise to get you started on understanding your emotions, she knows that you are the expert of your life.

“In a world that tells us to look outside of ourselves for guidance, the answers are within you. The Wonder Journal is designed to teach you which questions to ask, so you can uncover the guidance that only you can hear.”

I believe in this so strongly that it’s the exact message I share with my clients. So much so that I intend to offer this journal as a gift to my future VIP clients to use alongside our work together.

My personal experience writing in this journal has been that it’s the next best thing to working with a coach. Her prompts have helped me to coach myself and find answers and ahas that I hadn’t previously considered – and may not have discovered on my own – but that feel right and have moved me forward in exciting directions.

So if I’ve convinced you that this is the next best thing for your self-care toolkit, I wonder . . .

Are you ready to discover the answers within you?
