Your Weekly Overview May 14th – May 20th, 2018

Did you feel that frisson…or was it a full-on tectonic shift? This Tuesday, May 15 marks a tide-turning astrological event as electrifying Uranus makes its once-per-decade sign switch, extinguishing the flames of Aries and trudging through earth-sign Taurus until 2026. When the side-spinning planet switches zodiac signs, it’s no small thing. To wit, the transit into fiery Aries on March 11, 2011 coincided with the devastating Tokyo tsunami and subsequent explosion of uranium(!) in the Fukushima nuclear plant. While we’re praying that Uranus’ tango into Taurus will be free of such tragic eruptions, the celestial shock jock is sure to spin some unprecedented tracks in the days ahead. For the past seven years, radical Uranus has brought epic revolutions from the Arab Spring to the #MeToo movement. Uranus governs technology, and in self-authorized Aries, anyone with an iPhone and a dream (and a few strong Snapchat filters) had a shot at becoming an influencer or a YouTube celebrity. Cue up those posts if you still have such goals. Uranus will dance into Aries for one last mambo from November 6, 2018 until March 6, 2019. Simultaneously, get ready for a bizarre shift in the zeitgeist. Free-spirited, dystopian Uranus is hardly at home in the sign of the practical, process-driven Bull. It’s kind of like attempting to walk the Paris Fashion Week runway in eight-inch heels after you’ve lived that barefoot life in a bohemian beach town. Translation: Awkward AF.

At the same time, wonderful things may emerge from this planetary paradox of futuristic (Uranus) and classic (Taurus). The last time Uranus visited Taurus was in 1942, when technology was far less developed. With VR and AR products entering the market every day, we can only imagine what the influence of multisensory Uranus in Taurus will yield between now and 2026: Perfumed text messages, screens that feel soft to the touch…Build-A-Boyfriend workshops? Oh, the possibilities! And how about ditching those devices for some analog face time? Communal Uranus in connection with old-fashioned Taurus could connect us to our tribal roots as we gather IRL for everything from family dinners to plant medicine ceremonies. Sustainable energy and clean fuel solutions could emerge with a fresh stroke of Uranian genius. Perhaps we CAN save the planet after all. You might already decide to take a stride in that clean, green direction on Tuesday, as the Uranus transit is accompanied by the year’s only new moon in Taurus. Changing the world begins with your corner of it. How can you live more sustainably? As decadent Taurus reminds us, lowering your footprint doesn’t have to mean giving up luxury; just seek it out in conscious ways.

The second call for community action comes on Wednesday, May 16 as whirling dervish Mars zips into “one love” Aquarius for the first time since December 2016. Cool down the competitive vibes and embrace the spirit of the sharing economy. After all, s/he who has all the toys winds up playing alone. Booooooring—and kind of depressing, too. Mars is on an extended tour through Aquarius this year due to a retrograde through the Water Bearer’s stream from June 26 until August 12 and a sequel stopover from September 10 until November 15. Under this cosmic directive, working collectively will buoy us all to new heights. Where motivation and innovation are lacking, tap the hive mind and rewrite the script in open-source code. Even if you DO wind up in any sort of competition, the victory (and the game!) will be so much sweeter when you can share it with a team.

As if that wasn’t enough to grapple with, the weekend’s mood board comes with two more planetary shifts. On Saturday, sweet, loving Venus decamps to cozy Cancer, lending a warm-fuzzy vibe to the world until June 13. During this two-week cycle, we may prefer to keep gatherings family-or inner-circle only. Got some garden goals to achieve? With the beauty planet in this domestic position, sprucing up home sweet home (indoors or out) could become everyone’s favorite after-work obsession. But don’t turn into a hermit! On Sunday, Gemini season begins as el Sol beams into the sign of the Twins until June 21. This buzzy solar spell is meant for mingling and mixing up the social calendar with fresh faces and au currant cultural activities. By all means frequent your favorite haunts—but make sure to check out different venues, too!
