Understanding who you are in a spiritual sense can help you feel more complete and content in your life, whatever stage of life you may be in. Taking the time to intentionally figure out who you are and what makes your soul happy is a kind of self-care that we all need but rarely focus on. Don’t know what a soul journey is or how to embark on one? Intuitive soul guide Steph Palermo explains what it is and shares tips on how to incorporate your soul journey into your everyday life.

A soul journey is the process of living out your life on your own terms, according to the physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual blueprint for your soul. It’s stepping onto the path that feels right for who you are in the deepest sense, and living a life that is fulfilling to your soul, ultimately guiding you toward enlightenment in all aspects of your life. It’s the constant pursuit of discovering what makes you happy and connects you with who you are meant to be, and then incorporating those aspects into your day-to-day.

Furthering a deeper connection with yourself increases your connection with your intuition. This helps you feel a renewed sense of belonging and lets you be intentional with how your wants and needs align with the goals and beliefs you live by. When you’re living as your higher self you’re living a life that is aligned with your deepest desires and values.

Figuring out what your soul needs doesn’t happen overnight and that’s okay! Most of us are not used to even questioning what we need on a soul level, much less actually being intentional about incorporating these things into our daily life. At the core of embracing your soul journey is figuring out what feels right for you and then doing it. It sounds simple enough, but can actually be harder than you think. Staying aligned with your physical and emotional needs is an important part of the soul journey because just like you they grow and change over time, and your routine may need to be adjusted as well. Taking the time to listen to your desires and reevaluate your values creates mindfulness and awareness around your relationship with your higher self.

Ultimately, the things that you incorporate into your life as you embark on your soul journey should be things that support your soul and spirit and should be designed entirely on what feels good to you. Some soul-filled activities to help you find and follow your purpose are:

  • Practicing meditation – taking 10-15 minutes each day to recenter and recharge yourself is important for productivity and your mental health. You can either listen to a guided meditation or close your eyes and soak in the beauty of being present.
  • Reconnecting with nature – this can be whatever you want it to be! Perhaps it is going on a walk, a hike through the woods, or sitting outside. Experiencing nature can be so rejuvenating and lets us experience all 5 senses.
  • Journaling – write down how you are feeling, reflect on an experience, doodle, etc. You can even purchase a guided spiritual journal that includes writing prompts and journaling exercises.
  • Traveling – taking even one night away by yourself or with friends, or a week-long excursion to another country, can help fill your soul.
  • Cooking – Trying a new recipe, or getting into a routine of making your favorite version of something you love every week can be nourishing in more ways than one.
  • Connecting with a friend – sometimes talking with someone who cares about you can be just what you need. If you find that a phone call or sharing a coffee with a friend fills your soul, try to build that into your weekly routine.

So make sure to add in some soul journey time to your self-care routine. As you start implementing soul-enriching things into your life you’ll start to discover more and more about who you are and what your soul needs. Whether you want to set an event in your calendar or a reminder on your phone- the important thing is to be intentional about making the time to connect with your soul and do things that make you feel good on a regular basis. When you’re truly connected with your soul, you’ll be able to discover which activities light you up and truly contribute to your soul’s calling. Does your soul need some time to recharge? Does it crave the company of loved ones? Meeting the needs of your soul is unique to you and is the ultimate form of self-care because it is truly supporting and enriching your full self.
